Vitiligo Skin Grafting

Molluscum extraction, also known as molluscum removal, is a medical procedure performed to eliminate molluscum contagiosum, a viral skin infection that results in small, flesh-colored, dome-shaped bumps on the skin. These bumps are usually painless but can be itchy and may spread to other areas of the body or to other people through direct skin-to-skin contact.

Preoperative Evaluation: Before the procedure, a dermatologist or a qualified healthcare professional will evaluate the patient's vitiligo, including the extent and stability of the depigmented areas.

Donor Site Selection: The surgeon identifies a suitable donor site on the patient's body. The donor site should have healthy and normally pigmented skin that closely matches the color of the depigmented areas.

Harvesting the Graft: The surgeon carefully removes a thin layer of skin (split-thickness graft) from the selected donor site using a dermatome or a surgical blade.

Preparing the Recipient Site: The depigmented area where the graft will be placed is prepared by gently removing the outermost layers of the skin (debridement) to create a healthy base for graft acceptance.

Graft Placement: The harvested skin graft is then placed onto the prepared recipient site. The graft is carefully secured to ensure it stays in place during the healing process.

Dressing and Wound Care: The treated area is dressed with a sterile dressing, and the patient is given instructions on post-operative wound care and follow-up visits.

Topical Medications: In some cases, the doctor may prescribe topical medications that can be applied directly to the lesions to help them clear up.Healing and Pigmentation: Over time, the grafted skin establishes a blood supply from the recipient site, and the melanocytes in the graft start producing pigment.
